PRESIDENT’S  MESSAGE

I can’t believe that I am writing this note for our spring Newsletter. The winter in the north has been so great and spring is finally here. All of our snowbirds will be returning from the south soon and will be kicking off another great rally season. Bonnie and I stayed home this winter so we are anxious to start up the machine and hit the road again. We hope to see most of you at one of the rallies to share laughter, great food, friendship and don’t forget those happy hours. As usual, we kick off the season with the St Martins rally on June 16th, 17th and 18th  followed by the spring rally in Saint John on June 23rd, 24th and 25th. The Rallymasters are hosting the spring rally this year for $50.00 per coach. They decided that the high cost of fuel is hitting all of us hard and they wanted a great turnout to this great city of Saint John. The Annual Meeting will be on Sunday, June 25th at 10:30. Plan to stay and give the executive your input for the 20th anniversary celebration in 2007.

This Newsletter is a special one as it shows the dedication of our Editor, Louise Forbes. Louise has been very ill since January but still insisted on doing the Newsletter. This shows the great spirit of the Perfect Circle Club. Louise wanted to make sure that all of her friends had the spring rally schedule and all the latest news. Special thanks to Bill as well for all of his help with the Newsletter and the support and strength he gives Louise on a daily basis.

Wagon Masters Message

Winter in New Brunswick was one of the mildest in recent times that I can remember and for those that could not venture south the good weather made it somewhat bearable. Hopefully spring is just around the corner.

This year rallies start with the ever popular St. Martins in June and followed the next weekend with the spring rally in Saint John. August will bring the Banister rally followed by the Balloon Fiesta and the Gaspe caravan in September. See the schedule of dates in news letter or the web page http://perfectcircle.45Z.com for full details.

We have heard that there were a few new purchases this winter so maybe a motor home tour could be in order at a future rally.

Let me know if any one is interested in hosting a Christmas in October rally this year, as of press time I have had no offers. This is great rally to get your feet wet as traditionally it is very laid back, with lots of shopping, great happy hours and a nice facility for socialising.

Although Ellen and I have a very busy spring with a wedding and graduation to plan and attend we do hope to get to all the rallies this year.

I would like to end this note with a quote I read in the local paper a week or so ago.

You know you are in the Maritimes when you hear it asked “How far is it from Fredericton to Moncton?” and the reply is “about an hour and a half”. Where else would you hear distance measured as a function of time.

Happy Travels

Tim and Ellen

NATIONAL DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Winter is fast nearing an end. Those of you up north will be looking forward to the end of snow (well, maybe not the skiers and snowmobilers), while those of us down south will soon start preparing to return home. Leah and I have enjoyed the winter here in Sebring, Florida, and we hope that all of you enjoyed it too, wherever you spent it. We look forward to our summer rallies and the chance to see you again and share experiences.

National News

Several developments are “in the works” that will affect chapter operations. Some of these require bylaw amendments both at national and chapter levels.

  • Effective January 1, 2007, the position of Alternate National Director is eliminated. The rational for this is that “an increasing number of people attending the Governing Board Meeting as the voting representative for chapters have been Temporary Delegates rather than Alternate National Directors; that Alternate National Directors often do not want to move automatically to National Director position; and that smaller chapters often have difficulty filling officer positions”.
  • Term limits of six years (lifetime) for the positions of National Director and Temporary Delegate.
  • Effective mid 2008, a “Board of Representatives” (BAR) made of the four nationally elected officers and the four officers from each area for a total of 44 would be established. This body would take over some of the responsibilities now resting with the Governing Board.
  • Training sessions for National Directors at international conventions will be broadened to include all chapter officers and interested chapter members.

Upcoming International Conventions include:

  • Charlotte, N.C., August 14-17, 2006. If you are thinking of attending this Charlotte convention, and would consider being our Temporary Delegate, please call me to discuss what is involved, and the perks available.
  • Perry, Georgia, March 19-22, 2007
  • Redmond, Oregon, August 13-16, 2007
  • Pomona, California, February 25-28, 2008
  • St. Paul, Minnesota, July 14-17, 2008

Northeast Area and Southeast Area News

As advised earlier, the Northeast Area Rally for 2007 was cancelled due to fear of low attendance with the fuel price situation.

Leah and I attended the Southeast Area Rally held at Brooksville, Florida, on  February 1-5. It was great to see several Perfect Circle and Scotia Roamer members there, some on day passes. There were about 2000 coaches, one of the lower attendances. It was a good rally overall with great entertainment, displays, and seminars. The only negative was the 1 1/2 days of heavy rains, and several coach dealers packed it in early. Fortunately for those of us parked on grass, strong winds dried things up before departure on Sunday.

Other News

Earlier, I offered to review and report on our experiences with the FMCA Emergency Road Service, if members who had occasion to use this service cared to call me to verbally share their experience. I am leaving this open until spring, so please give me a call if you so wish. It may be interesting to hear how others fared in getting roadside assistance or in being towed. My phone numbers are included below.

Special Thanks—Florida Trip

We are sure that a number of Perfect Circle members have heard that we were momentarily delayed for a couple of hours when the tag axle on our motor home became detached and went its separate way. This happened in Fredericksburg, Virginia. After making some major adjustments, we continued on our way to Kissimmee.

The purpose of this note is to thank Paul and Ann Barton, Albert Rose, Retus Macfadyen, Dave Langille and Bill Silliphant for their suggestions and ideas in getting things back together again. One phone call and they were Jonnie on the spot. We really appreciated their guidance and help.
