PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

My first job as President of Perfect Circle is to thank everyone for your trust in me as President for the next 2 years. I will do my best to carry on the great work of Jack Smith and all former Presidents. Jack and Carol worked hard at making the chapter a great success and on behalf of all members I would like to thank them. Our prayers and best wishes go out to them at this difficult time.

I would also like to thank Liz MacFarlane for the great job she did as Bulletin Editor. Many hours were put into making the Traveller a great read every 2 months. All the best Liz and Don. Following in some talented footsteps as our new Editor is Louise Forbes. Louise brings her own unique talent and we look forward to her first edition. Welcome aboard Louise and Bill. We also have a new member on the executive; Don Hatheway as 2nd VP. Welcome aboard Don and Barb.

As of July 18th we had 132 members who have paid their 2004/05 membership dues. We hope that as many of you as possible will remain members of Perfect Circle. It is a great chapter and Bonnie and I have made many new friends. Send your dues to Ann Barton as soon as possible as she will soon publish the new membership directory. The FMCA head office sent a letter to 109 members in NB and PEI who were not a Perfect Circle member. It invited them to join our chapter and attend one of our rallies this year. Hopefully we will get new members from this recruitment initiative.

Bonnie and I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming rallies.

Happy Trails.

Clint and Bonnie

EDITOR’S MESSAGE

Here is your first edition of the PERFECT CIRCLE TRAVELLER produced by the new Editor, Louise Forbes. My plan for this edition is to closely follow Liz’s format and style.

I want the Traveller to be the mail you look forward to reading. You drop all junkmail, bills, etc and get right into it. After all when your Perfect Circle friend calls and says “Did you know…”? You’ll be able to say “Yes, I saw it in the “Traveller  this a.m.

I am impressed and appreciate the promptness of the Executives, committee chairs, rally masters, and all for sending your emails on time. As I become a pro I will establish a constant close date for the convenience of all.

I want the Newsletter to be yours and I will check spelling but not grammer  How you send it, is how you will see it. A little flair adds character.

I look forward to receiving your short stories, jokes, recipes and hints.

Bill will be a great help by shopping for the best deal in printing, paper, envelopes, etc.

Our common goal is to produce an informative, interesting Newsletter at the best possible price.

We will see some of you at Bannisters in August and many of you at the Balloon Fiesta

NATIONAL DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Leah and I have enjoyed our chapter summer rallies thus far, being able to see so many of you and to enjoy good times together. We are truly blessed in being able to share the fun and fellowship with folks having similar interests and concerns. Our personal ‘hats off’ and thanks to the rallymasters and workers.

We are off to Ontario and Europe for August and early September, so will miss The Bannisters’ Rally, but expect to be back for the Sussex Balloon Fiesta.

National News

No one from our chapter is able to attend either the Northeast Area Rally held at West Springfield, or the upcoming International Rally at Minot, North Dakota. However, our chapter is fortunate to have been able to arrange with Kathie Turfano of the FMCA Northeast Area to be a temporary delegate for us at both. She has joined our chapter – special welcome Kathie; maybe we will see you at some of our future rallies?

There is talk at FMCA about recommending to chapters to consider term limits for chapter officers including National Directors. It will be interesting to see what develops in this regard.

Consideration is being given to setting a parking area at international rallies for generator stack parking. I expect many of us would like to see this happen. Also, the 2007 Perry Georgia rally may be moved to the first week of April. This would work out well for those returning from Florida.

Northeast Area News

The Northeast Area Rally was held in West Springfield, Mass. on July 13-16, 2005. Kathie Turfano reports that it went well, as did the NMA (Northeast Motorhome Association) meeting.  A defibrillator is being purchased. A logo for the Northeast Area (which our Chapter approved at the Spring Rally) has been approved, with the correction for Newfoundland and Labrador, and we will see this appearing on T-shirts, banners, etc. as time goes on.

Kathie had the opportunity to meet several of the candidates running for national offices. We are carefully considering the best choices for our support during the Governing Board Meeting at Minot.

Other News

We have completed the updating to our Chapter’s Operations Manual. This manual has been in use now for over ten years. Its purpose is to assist those serving as our Chapter Officers, and Chairs of our Standing Committees, to better understand their respective jobs, and how the Chapter and FMCA operate. It is just a tool to help us function smoothly as a chapter. In between these major updates, we sometimes add new helpful items as the need arises.

FMCA membership includes many benefits, and probably most of us are only partially aware of the details of these. In future reports I will try to convey some such details, taking one benefit at a time. For my next report I will research the MEDEX Emergency Evacuation Program. If any of you have had occasion to use this, please give me a call to chat about your experience. In this way, we can pass on useful information to other members. We’ll give this a try anyway and see how it goes.

Congratulations to the people elected to new chapter offices during the Spring Rally, and our personal thank-you and appreciation to the many officers and committee chairs who have so willingly agreed to stay on. We look forward to working with all of you during the coming term.

Happy and safe travels,

John and Leah Devlin

Sunshine Report July 2005

Joyce MacLeod: It is with great sadness we learned of Joyce’s passing. She was a sweet lady; always pleasant even when in hospital for a long time and enjoyed a visit from friends and family. She was proud of her family and looked forward to the many get to-gethers at Christmas and at the cottage in the summer.

She was so pleased to have a new grandchild and great grandchild to enjoy as well as the older grandchildren.

Her sons and Jim were constantly with her during her last months making her final days as tolerable as possible.

She has been a Perfect Circle member for a number of years and we will miss her.

Howard Roberts: was a dedicated member of Maine Wheels for many years and attended many Perfect Circle rallies. We were sorry to learn of his passing recently.

Good News!!! Rita Leger was chosen Businesswoman of the Year in Tracadie recently. It is a much deserved honor and we congratulate her.

Sympathy & Get Well wishes were sent to the following:

Norm Melvin: on the loss of his brother.

Tom MacLeod: get well wishes.

Norm Ferguson: get well wishes.

Jim MacLeod: thinking of you.

Don Langille: get well wishes.

Connie Ross: get well wishes.

Don MacFarlane get well wishes

Bill Boyce: sympathy on the death of his father.

Ron MacKay: on the death of his mother.

Carol Smith continues to have tests as her health is a concern for she and Jack. Get well wishes go to her too.

Our thoughts are also with Howard & Laura Cederlund (Maine Wheels )as Laura has not been well.

Wagon master’s Message

We will have had three successful rallies by the time this makes the news letter.

This being my first year as rally master I have to thank Clint and Bonnie for setting up this year’s excellent schedule. It has made my first year very easy.

Unfortunately Tom and Eleanor have had to cancel the Nashwaak River Rally this August due to health problems. We wish you a speedy recovery Tom.  I do have it from a very good source however that there will be a Christmas in October rally this year. Rally Masters Albert and Ardith Rose with the assistance of Don and Shirley Nauss will be hosting this rally in Moncton on September 30 and October 1st at Camper City. More details and information will be forth coming in the news letter and as always you can get registration forms and info from your web page at http://perfectcircle.45z.com/

Ellen and I will be off to the rally in St. Andrews this weekend where I am sure Bill and Louise have a great relaxing weekend planned.

We are working on next year’s schedule, and hope to have the line-up announced at the Balloon Festival in September. if you are interested in hosting a rally please let me know. You can send me an email at Tim.O’Connor@gnb.ca or give me a call at 459-4324.

On July 30/05 we have been invited to attend a “Red Hatters Tea Party” in St Andrews ,organized by “Divas With Attitude”.The tea and tour is at Kingsbrae Gardens ,not to be confused with the one being done by Louise Forbes at her rally. Now my suggestion would be for each area to put a car pool together and head for St Andrews. Please let me know so I can post it to all by email so we will all know who to look for. Sounds like fun !

On Friday,Sept. 9/05 during the Balloon Fiesta, in Sussex ,there will be a Women On Wheels Red Hat Luncheon at 11;30 am at the All Seasons Restaurant. PERFECT CIRCLE SPRING RALLY 2005

Whew! All our planning finally materialized on Thursday ,June 16 as coaches started to roll into the Fredericton Exhibition grounds. Bun,who had no coach because it was in for repairs just shook his head when Alice said “ Come on Bunny, we gotta do this”,and the parking began. Ken and Carol, came down 3 weeks early to help with the parking and take parking lessons from Bun, they did a great job too ! While these guys/gals were doing the parking, Sandra C and Carol A were wading through the long wet grass in their rain gear, cutting lupins to make the building look nice for our activities.Well they said they were picking lupins, I don’t know for sure.

Leah and John were worried about the turkeys for the dinner while Bob & Dorothy were gathering up food for the rally. Don & Winzora , Cedric & Shirley were in such a hurry to get here they forgot to bring their coach and Don and Barb H brought their bus but forgot to use it . We get so excited in Fredericton when we have company coming.

Tom O was busy delivery a golf cart so Bun would have a roof over his head while Ellen was busy checking everyone in. They were so excited they took the day off from work to hang out in the rain with us. By Friday everyone was in and settled. We had members from NB, NS, PEI, Ont , Maine, NH, and Florida. Can you imagine ,all coming these distances just to be at our rally ? We even had Bill Skolfield’s brother and his naked sister visit us.. now believe me, that was a sight to be seen !

Herb W had the guys all teed up for golf and they managed to get in two rounds before the rain wiped them out.The Tour to Old Government House is always so interesting and was well worth the visit. Constable Smith spoke to us on “Safety in the home and motorhome” which was very informative.I think most of us would agree that we won”t be visiting Doug W home unless we let him know first. Don & Shirley Nauss met with our First Timers for a new member orientation and to make it easier for them to understand our policies and to meet other First Timers. When the pizza arrived we were ready to dig in and the potluck Chocolate Dessert Extravanza was absolutely awesome.. a first class restaurant could not have offered you anything better.

The auction with Raymond C, previously referred to as “Teflon Sly”, as auctioneer and his side kick Scoop Mac Intee was a huge success. Carol M and Sandra C were busy  making sure the money kept rolling in .And then we were introduced to karaoke in which our entertainer did a fabulous job of entertaining us. Mary M and Bev D both sang for us and boy can they sing. Fran & Reg Murphy really danced up a storm , Ann Barton had moves I’ve never seen before and  Reg & Mary Lou got us started on line dancing. There was no evidence of any seniors at this dance.

Sat morning we were up and running again ,well actually Shirlee C was on roller blades delivering toast to Loretta ‘”,Jack & Donnie to serve with coffee. She thought the ladies should all go to lunch on roller blades.. my children would seriously have to look at those commitment papers if they caught me doing that. The word “caught” is the magic word. The guys all piled on the bus to travel to RV World for their seminar, little did they know that RV World had a fire the night before but they were ready  when the bus arrived. I thought I was stressed and I didn’t have a fire ! The ladies rolled into the Delta Hotel ,by car ,not roller blades ..for a pasta buffet lunch which the Hotel had prepared especially for us . Helen W had everything so well organized for us. Lots of Red Hatters in our group, even some Maine Wheelers were in their red hats.

The yard sale, book sale, which by the way was another great success, organized by Marg & Gerry D, and theice cream social was a great gathering place. Our First Timers ,thanks to Michele & Doug’s planning, served our ice cream. The turkey dinner that Leah & John were worried about was the “absolute best” ,prepared and served by our Epsilon Y’s Men. After dinner we had a “special auction item” with Auctioneer Larry in charge of the chicken coop.We had two turkeys for the price of one..so, Lorraine L made a bid ,when she went to collect it,, she realized that one turkey was frozen.,the other one very much alive.

Well she could keep both of them or give both of them to a friend..we soon found out who our friends were. We thought when Cecil got them it would be the demise of the turkeys, not so..then we thought when Tim C got them,he would take them across the border..not so, finally when the turkeys were given to Glynn the turkeys came home to roost ..by the way “Larry ,the Turkey” is doing fine and is telling his friends that he spent the evening with the strangest group of  turkeys he had ever seen..most had no feathers, they gobbled a lot and one looked frozen to death. Man ,he was glad to be home !

The Square dancers ,which Nancy and Gerry had arranged ,were all dressed in their finery and ready for a swinging good time..lots of swingers in our group so they joined right in.

Sun morning ,Tom & Eleanor, Cedric & Shirley and Don and Barb H were ready with coffee and muffins for us.The Women on Wheels were finally able to sing for their breakfast and I think we did a right fine old job. Rev Paul Thompson led us in our devotional Church Service through song and sermon. And then it was time for the “hot dog crew’ to turn up the burners. While Larry, Bob & Laurie were getting that ready, Margie, Doreen and Judy with the help of Shirley F were cutting buns, skinning hotdogs and trying to pour ice tea crystals in the smallest little top they could find.. actually the only top they could find .They had their hands full… and I am so thankful that they were so calm, cool and collected .Our food was delivered to the Food Bank, and they were ever so thankful.

We had a great group at our rally.. we met old friends, made new ones ,had fun, and lots of laughs. Glynn and I are so blessed to have joined  this group .We want to thank our awesome committee chairs and their many helpers for pitching right in and running with this;  the generosity of our sponsors ; and all of you for coming and supporting us in our efforts for this 2005 Spring Rally here in Fredericton. We hope you had a great time and we are so glad you came .

The following article appeared under the picture:

MOTORHOME ENTHUSIASTS LOVE LIFE  ON THE GO.

More people than ever are hitting the road in luxury and comfort these days.

In fact , a regional motorhoming association has seen it’s Fredericton area membership quadruple in the past decade.

Fredericton Glynn and Marie Salter count themselves among those who love motorhome travel.

The two are members of Perfect Circle, a Chapter of the Family Motor Coach Association that gathered in the city this past weekend for a rally.

“We’ve had a wonderful, wonderful time with this group,” Marie Salter said.

The retired couple got into motorhome traveling about 10 years ago.

“We had vacationed in the wintertime to different places,” Salter said. “But we hadn’t really seen very much of New Brunswick. So we decided  that we would buy a little motorhome and just travel the back roads of New Brunswick.”

After about one year the couple decided to join the local group. “We thought ‘Well gee whiz, you know it would be nice to have other people who are interested in the same that we are interested in,”she said. “So we joined Perfect Circle”.

They’ve been active members since then.

About 78 motorhomes from all over eastern North America filled the parking lot of the Fredericton Exhibition Grounds for the three-day event that ended Sunday.

Launched about 20 years ago by a group of enthusiasts from the Moncton-area, Perfect Circle has 190 member coaches or motorhomes from Atlantic Canada, New England and even Florida.

The association currently has a membership of more that 140,000 coaches throughout North America.

Salter said he and his wife spend much of the year in their motorhome.

“It’s just great,” he said. “We just shut (things) off at home , we’re on our way; we’re going to have some fun, meet with some friends and enjoy the freedom.

Beverly Dunn and her husband  came to the Fredericton rally from Beersville, near Moncton.

The couple helped found Perfect Circle. Dunn said she has many reasons to enjoy traveling in her motorhome.

“The comradery, the fellowship (and) the fact that I always have my own bed with me wherever I go,” she said. “It’s just a wonderful way to travel.”

Dunn said she and her husband have traveled to many places in their motorhome, including Western Canada and California.

Clint Colpitts of Quispamsis is the incoming president of Perfect circle and said it”s a great experience tobe part of the group.

“For me, it’s very pleasurable,” Colpitts said of owning a motorhome

He said motor-home owners have a variety of personalities, but share several things in common.

“A desire to travel and wanting to not only see other parts of the country but to also go to functions and socialize,” Colpitts said.

St Martin’s Rally

June 10-12, 2005

Paul & Ann Barton F267647 organized a fun-filled Perfect Circle Rally for 32 coaches from NS, PEI & NB at the Century Farm Campground in St. Martins. The Rally was well-planned and enjoyable with cool, but not rainy weather.

Sheriff Larry McLaughlin made sure members wore their name badges with his whistle and intimidating costume. Herb Walsh began an appeal as his name tags had been left behind in a coach previously sold. He was able to have them Fed Exed to the Rally so pleaded for a pardon.

The lobster was delicious, Clint Colpitts & Frank Boers did a super job of cooking.

There were quite a few successful kiters Friday night. Glynn Salter & Laurie Beatty flew ‘blinp-shaped’ large kites. Bill Boyce’s was traditional with sticks, brown paper & comic strips. Don Lourie’s, Paul Bartons, and Clints flew well and Clint gave kite flying lessons to his little grandsons.

Loretta & Jack Hill, Don Lourie and Shirley Coleman were our very capable breakfast hosts & hostesses.

Lunch for the men was on their own Saturday while the ladies enjoyed a catered lunch in the campground. It was supplied by a local group. The sandwiches, veggies and sweets were fresh and delicious.

Books were exchanged, Red Hat memberships taken and a presentation on massages was delivered with hands on demos.

The men were treated to a seminar on motor home maintenance by Larry McLaughlin and then by a representative from Leisure Time Sales.

Happy Hour on Friday was provided by coaches numbered from 1-18 and Saturday by 18-32.

Saturday evening entertainment was performed by the ‘Basement Boys?’ and enjoyed by Perfect Circle members and other campers. The music was familiar and well played with jokes as a bonus. Larry arrived with his popcorn machine and distributed to all. Bev Dunn sang a couple of beautiful songs and the Women on Wheels present sang as well.

Sunday noon we had hot dogs, pop, etc.courtesy of Laurie & Judy Beatty, Larry & Margie McLaughlin and Gerry & Cynthia Randall.

New members: Ed & Barb Holleran, Ron & Pam Breau, Eric & Annette Higgins were introduced and welcomed.

Byard & Linda Moran were friendly & accommodating campground owners.

Unfortunately, Bun & Alice Regan were unable to attend due to a mechanical breakdown. Thanks to Paul & Ann for their efforts in making the rally a great beginning to our summer.

ST ANDREWS RALLY

Most of us arrived as scheduled however, some were late for different reasons; Glynn  & Marie were a day late because Marie didn’t remember they had paid for Thursday.  Don & Barb  Hatheway reported  to the office on Thursday that they were having RV problems and would be arriving Friday. The problem? They were in Halifax trading the Prevost for the Newmar that was on display at the Fredericton Spring Rally. They arrived

around noon, same time as Salters. Then Laurie & Judy Beatty  were among the missing. They were late because their little dog “Charlie” was feeling awful, and needed a trip to the vet..

We were all there in time for a great happy hour Friday followed by piping hot pizza and ice cold pop at the shelter. Entertainment continued by John Devlins’ coach where we formed “The Circle” and enjoyed jokes, laughter and Glynns’ Christmas gift to himself- “a propane fire pit”.

The WOW”s enjoyed a guided tour of  Kingsbrea Gardens on Saturday afternoon, others enjoyed the Local Art Exhibit and Sale. The garden tour was “awesome” even in the heat. After the tour we visited the Garden Café and ordered wine. Can’t have wine unless you order food” Bummer. Louise offered to order a cheese sandwich and 10 glasses of wine, but Allen, our waiter said that was a No, No. We settled for lemonade and iced tea which were very refreshing..

Saturday happy hour was another “occasion”, the  munchies were great and the friendship was casual and lasting.

Sunday a.m. we met at the shelter and enjoyed coffee  except our President Clint, he prefers a tea bag in a cup of hot water. No problem, the water was hot. We had super cinnamon buns and muffins from the Sweet Harvest Market. Then it was time to pack up and leave by noon. We were a small group, but so compatible and really enjoyed our

time together.

There are those who say they will help, but somehow just never get around to actually doing the promised help.  They are called  Hezzie Taters.”

Then there are those who love and do what they say they will. They are always prepared to stop what they are doing and lend a helping hand. They bring real sunshine into the lives of others. They are called “Sweet Tators”.

EDITORS COMMENT:  Most all “Perfect Circle Potatoes” I have met are

“Sweet Tators.”  A slight mix of “Speck Tators,” “Comment Tators” and

Hezzie Tators” make up the rest of the barrel.
