PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

BE THE FIRST ON YOUR BLOCK TO GET THE PERFECT CIRCLE NEWSLETTER!

Yes, the newsletter is on the internet and instantly available along with lots of other information on our chapter.  Rally forms, by-laws, inventory, standing rules, about us, merchandise, new members, photos, club officers…..its all there. As agreed, you will continue to get your hard copy in the mail. However, let Liz MacFarlane know if you can print it off yourself and save us mail & print costs.

It has been a different summer getting around the rain showers. But even with the weather we had great times at St. Martins, Campbellton, Cocagne, River Glade & Sussex.

Welcome fall and one rally left in Moncton. We should make an effort to take this one in.  Shirley & Don have promised Indian Summer for Oct.1stto 3rd and lots to do within a very short distance from the campground.  This is a heart-warming time as we are wishing old friends au’voir for a while.

Lots in the works for next year with rally masters already planning for rallies at Clerbrook, St. Martins, Fredericton, St. Andrews, River Glade & Sussex.

Soon it will be time to winterize or pack for warmer climates. In the meantime let’s enjoy the colors of the fall and live each day to the fullest.

EDITOR’S MESSAGE

Well, we are down to the end of summer and only one more rally left to go.  Don & I only got to one rally this summer, then Don fractured his heel and has been laid up ever since.  However, we plan to visit at the “Christmas in October Rally” in Moncton, and I wouldn’t miss a Red Hat Luncheon.  I had only received 2 inputs for a newsletter name; then since the Sussex Rally, I have received a few more.  However, I have discovered that we had a name for the newsletter when we started Perfect Circle, a name suggested by a founding member and chosen by the Executive of the day.  It was the “Perfect Circle Traveler”.   For some reason, and nobody seems to know why, it got dropped over the years at one point, and never got picked up again.  So I think that it is a pretty good name, and I think that we should reinstate it.  What do you think?  I have used it on this month’s newsletter.  I thank everybody who has sent me suggestions for a newsletter name, and hope you are all pleased with the “Perfect Circle Traveler”.

NATIONAL DIRECTOR’S REPORT

Things are pretty quiet at the moment as the summer activities wind down. We had another great series of rallies this year, thanks to all of you who worked so hard to make it all happen for us. We now look forward to the fall season, which always seems like a beautiful time of year in the Maritimes.  Fall seems to give us time to ‘catch our breath’ after a busy summer, enjoy the autumn scenery, make plans and prepare for winter. Many of us enjoy staying close to ‘home and hearth’ for the winter, while some of us like to go to warmer climates. Even if we are thousands of miles apart, it is so easy to stay in touch these days with e-mail and telephone. Those of us in the south also enjoy getting together with other members from time to time. We have a little house now at Tanglewood RV Resort in Sebring, Florida – if you are in the area be sure to drop by and share a ‘wee bit’ of RonRico, tea, or whatever J

 National News

The FMCA International Rally took place at Redmond, Oregon August 16 –19. Bill and Ellie Skolfield  (Maine Wheels and Perfect Circle) attended, and Ellie represented us at the Governing Board Meeting there.  I haven’t been able to make contact with them yet, and reports form FMCA have not yet arrived, so I will have to report on any items of interest in the next newsletter.

One interesting little tidbit - I understand that one item on the agenda for the Governing Board meeting was how to deal with a possible impasse due to the lack of a quorum. The attendance at these international rallies has declined in recent years (Brunswick, Maine still holds the record at 7000+ coaches), and since the FMCA Bylaws define a quorum as 51% of the total number of Governing Board members, there is the real possibility that a of quorum would be impossible, and things would grind to a halt!  Hopefully they came up with a solution, and had a quorum to implement it.

 Northeast Area News

Leah and I attended the FMCA Northeast Area Rally at Essex Junction Vermont July 14-17. It was good rally in spite of much rain, with about 950 coaches present including around 750 member coaches. There was the usual variety of seminars, entertainment, display booths, and display coaches. With Norm Melvin's help we carried our chapter banner and the New Brunswick flag during the opening ceremony, getting thoroughly soaked in the downpour to add to the fun. The Melvins and we also volunteered on merchandise sales. Newer members Royale and Christine Gionet also attended this rally.

 Other News

The FMCA Southeast Area Rally will take place at Brooksville, Florida again this year, February 2 to 6 /05. Perfect Circle Chapter is usually well represented at this rally. If you are planning to attend, don’t forget your Perfect Circle shirts and hats – it’s always nice to show off our colors.

The FMCA winter International Rally will be held March 21-24 /05 at Perry, Georgia. Leah and I hope to attend. Training sessions for National Directors (who serve as Governing Board Members) are now offered during international rallies, and we will try to attend this, or at least see the training video that is also being produced.  I know I can use this help in learning how to do my job as your National Director.

Happy and safe travels,               John and Leah Devlin

                                         COCAGNE RALLY, JULY 9-11/04

Well, 42 motorcoaches descended on Cocagne for the LeBlanc & Co. Rally.  Actually, some even arrived on the 7th they were so anxious to be there. We were all looking for good food, lots of fun and sunny weather. The food was great, we had lots and lots of fun, but because of the recent election, the federal and provincial governments haven’t decided yet who is in charge of the weather so we had a lot of weather changes. I thought the Rallymasters had arranged for fireworks off in the distance on Friday night and it was awesome, well until someone said it was lightening and that changed some of the enjoyment of the whole thing.

“Not to worry about a little inclement weather”, they said and out came a large tent canopy. According to the women present, Friday’s entertainment was the tent being put up. Then they decided to enclose the whole shelter area with plastic to lower the rain and wind activity .We were totally ready to enjoy the rally activities under the big top. Talk about organization!

On Friday, the golfers found a golfcourse, so away they went to enjoy their golf game.

We had our potluck supper on Saturday night and someone suggested that we have dinner music with our dinner so Lauraine Morreali hit the piano keys and she was awesome. That evening she even sang a song during the entertainment. I didn’t know she could play the piano or sing so this was a great treat .The top of the line entertainment, Gordie Steeves and his buddies, were brought in for Friday night but there is only so much rain that a tent will keep out, so most, but not all, returned to their coaches. Gordie Steeves and his buddies, made up for this short Friday night musical and entertaining time, by playing and telling jokes all Saturday evening.

We had a great feed of mussels on Friday afternoon .Man were they good! We had wonderful breakfasts with pancakes, sausages and French toast one morning, Doris and Dolan’s famous omelet another morning,  they sure did feed us well. Every time we looked they were cooking something for us and it was not an easy task to do under a tent and dry camping. (Well it was supposed to be dry camping but more wets that dry)

The “Women On Wheels” strutted their stuff on Saturday with a luncheon in Shediac. Twenty-two ladies were present for the luncheon. They certainly turned heads and had car horns blowing in Shediac.  We heard that some of the men were off to the restaurants as soon as our car lights disappeared around the corner.

When Sunday arrived, we could see the guys hoping that their coach would not get stuck. And as each coach landed on solid ground a cheer went up from the crowd .We always find out a bit more about members with every rally we attend.  Lauraine has all kinds of musical ability, Jack S just celebrated his 65 birthday, Don Hache has lots of music abilities as well, Don Nauss came prepared to start his own Hard Hat Chapter, and I think Laurie Beatty wants to join the Red Hatters.  If the LeBlancs & Co decided to open a restaurant, after all the practice they had this week-end, they would sure have a lot of business, Louis P did such a good job at parking that he may act as the valet for the restaurant.  We have a whole staff within that group that the Le Blancs could call to join their staff.

It was a wonderful rally, and from all those who attended and just sat back and enjoyed it all, a huge thank you to all those who worked, under not the greatest circumstances, to make this rally such a success. To the LeBlancs and Co. you did a marvelous job, we know how hard you worked this weekend and we owe you an enormous thank you.

RIVERGLADE RALLYAUGUST 20 - 22, 2004

Bannister’s Interval was a beautiful green field with the Pollett River bubbling along the side of the property when 15 motor homes assembled for the 14th consecutive Perfect Circle Rally held there. The blue Perfect Circle flag presided at the entrance to the rally site.

Claude and Elsie Bannister F108396 entertained older and newer members F12 to F349721 in their usual easygoing manner throughout the weekend.

There was lots of corn for the Friday night corn boil and Phyllis Bannister demonstrated making ‘smores’ at campfire (especially for us older folk as the children already knew how) Claude and Blake Ross fed us full breakfasts Saturday and Sunday on Claude’s famous grill.

Jim Lounsbury barbecued a whole pig on Saturday. The meat was well done and delicious. The meal was complete with Elsie’s hodge-podge and members and friends contributions to the potluck. Getting the barbecue assembled under a tent in anticipation of the rain as well as the wonderful smells during the day kept us interested.

It was good to see Jim Hodge looking fully recovered after extensive by-pass surgery last spring. Also to have Murray O’Donnell with us and telling all kinds of stories.

Jim Hodge was mystified one morning after getting up and looking for Lou. He finally found her stuck beside the bed after falling out. Glad there were no injuries.

It was also a treat to see the children having a great time. They played in the river, flew kites, played games, etc. with SO much energy. Suzanne Symes painted faces to the delight of children present.

….And then the rains came down. On Saturday the rain became heavier and heavier: it gave a whole new meaning to the words DRY CAMPING.

The entertainers arrived and played throughout the evening. The shelter and tent helped but by the time the entertainers finished, all were damp.

Sunday dawned bright and clear. However, the river had risen by at least a foot with a swift current so it was no longer a safe place to play.

Gradually the motor homes began to leave after people had a thoroughly enjoyable time appreciating the company of fellow members and friends who visited off and on during the weekend.

We appreciate the Bannisters hospitality and hard work in creating another very successful Perfect Circle Rally.

SUSSEX BALLOON FIESTA RALLY

Great friends, fantastic balloons, good food all added up to a wonderful weekend at the Annual Atlantic Balloons Fiesta in
Sussex.  75 coaches were in attendance and that included 1 from Maine Wheels Chapter, one from PEI, 16 from Nova Scotia and even one from South Dakota. Remnants of Hurricane Frances caused lots of rain on Thursday, but our parkers under the direction of Alice & Bun Regan and Norm Melvin did a great job of getting everyone in and settled.

Donated donuts from Mrs. Dunsters were given to each coach along with a goodie bag of info and treats. The rain continued into Friday, so the Happy Hour and Pizza Party Great friends, fantastic balloons, good food all added up to a wonderful weekend at the Annual Atlantic Balloons Fiesta in was rescheduled until Saturday evening.  As the heavens opened up again at supper time on Friday, we were glad of our decision, but later in the evening it cleared and as our club name implies, we formed a Perfect Circle and had a sing a long. On Saturday morning 15 of the men enjoyed a round of golf at Sussex Golf and Country Club with Jack Smith organizing …. While in the afternoon everyone enjoyed an ice cream social …. Then a pizza party at supper time. What’s the expression – “Life is short, eat dessert first”… and so we did. Just as we finished eating, balloons were flying overhead – what a sight …. 30+ in attendance this year from all over the world. Our location is great, as the balloons glided right over us and we could even call up to the balloonists. Lots of fun. And then the Moon Glow after dark in the evening was magnificent.

The next morning brought more balloons launched and then a breakfast of biscuits and cinnamon rolls with various jams.  Right after breakfast, we stayed in our seats for a General meeting keeping us up to date on FMCA and our chapters events and upcoming rallies. Slowly, as the day wore on, happy members said good-byes and ‘see you down the road’ to friends - old and new.  We hope you all had a great time and if you were not there, we missed you and hope to see you next year.

We have to say a very special thanks to all the members who helped us so much on our rally. You know who you are and we appreciate you all so much. We could not have done it without you!!!
We had a great experience.  Next year’s rally will be organized by Norm and Cathy Melvin, so watch the newsletter for more info … and mark your calendar now for the weekend after Labour Day in 2005.

                                                              RED HAT MATTERS

                                                             WOMEN ON WHEELS

On Saturday, September 11/04, 27 ladies donned their red hats and purple outfits and drove off All Seasons restaurant in Sussex to have our third official Red Hat Luncheon. Thanks to Carol Smith for organizing the luncheon for us.  Another Queen Mother, Shirley Cox, from The Sussex Red Hat Chapter joined us for our luncheon. Carolyn Beers and Liz MacFarlane drove down from Moncton to join us, which is a clear indication of the dedication to our group. Thanks also goes to Jean Foglein for providing items for us to sell tickets on to add monies to our coffers. Both Darilyn Hill and Carol Smith provided our little purple table decorations for us to sell as well. The good news is that we can coast a while without little fund raisers as our financial situation is in pretty good shape.

Darilyn Hill also provided us with a lovely singing prayer which we have adopted for some of our outings. We also practiced a song which we will have down pat for the Red Hat Rally in Woodstock in May /2005 in the event we are asked to provide some entertainment. Thanks to Shirley Nauss who chose the words to fit the tune.

Your encouragement and participation in this Chapter endeavour is overwhelming, whether it be arranging the luncheons, providing items for our little fundraisers or just putting on a red hat to attend the luncheons. This is what makes it all worthwhile and hopefully a fun time as we approach those middle years in our lives. Four new members joined in Sussex and we now have a “Pink Hatter” in our midst. Welcome ladies to Women On Wheels”.

ATTENTION; WOMEN ON WHEELS

OUR NEXT RED HAT LUNCHEON WILL BE HELD IN CONJUNCTION WITH “CHRISTMAS IN OCTOBER RALLY”.  THE LUNCHEON WILL BE ON

 Queen Mother, Marie

“WOMEN ON WHEELS” AND “PERFECT CIRCLE” LADIES’ LUNCHEONS:

Could I advise our ladies that we appear to be having a few wrinkles in our approach to our ladies luncheons.  So far we have used our registration forms and sign up sheets for ladies to indicate if  they are planning to attend our luncheons. Once you have indicated that “yes” you plan to attend, we count you in when we make our reservations at the restaurant. Please, please, if you have indicated that you do plan to attend the luncheon or the activity, and something changes those plans, advise the organizer at least 48 hours in advance that you are unable to attend.  In St Martins we had five “no shows” for our catered luncheon.  At a catered luncheon we pay for the number of people for which we ordered, fortunately the rally was able to pay for this.

If you have not indicated that you wish to attend, and a deadline date is on the luncheon notice, we will be arranging only for the members who have advised us prior to that date. This seems like such a small thing, but as an organizer who is trying to make arrangements for a ladies luncheon, she must know the number of ladies who are really planning to attend. If it is a catered luncheon that we have organized and you informed us that you were attending and you do not show up, someone else may be paying for your lunch, we cannot afford to go that route.

We are attempting to have an added bit of fun for ladies at some of our rallies , so let’s make it easier for the gals doing the organizing .

Might As Well Dance

This was written by an 83 year old...The last line says it all.

I'm reading more and dusting less. I'm sitting in the yard and admiring the view without fussing about the weeds in the garden. I'm spending more time with my family and friends and less time working. Whenever possible, life should be a pattern of experiences to savor, not to endure. I'm trying to recognize these moments now and cherish them. I'm not "saving" anything; we use our good china and crystal for every special event such as losing a pound, getting the sink unstopped, or the first Amaryllis blossom. I wear my good blazer to the market. My theory is if I look prosperous, I can shell out $28.49 for one small bag of groceries. I'm not saving my good perfume for special parties, but wearing it for clerks in the hardware store and tellers at the bank. "Someday" and "one of these days" are losing their grip on my vocabulary; if it's worth seeing or hearing or doing, I want to see and hear and do it now. I'm not sure what others would've done had they known they wouldn't be here for the tomorrow that we all take for granted. I think they would have called family members and a few close friends. They might have called a few former friends to apologize and mend fences for past squabbles I like to think they would have gone out for a Chinese dinner or for whatever their favorite food was. I'm guessing; I'll never know. It's those little things left undone that would make me angry if I knew my hours were limited. Angry because I hadn't written certain letters that I intended to write one of these days. Angry and sorry that I didn't tell my husband and parents often enough how much I truly love them. I'm trying very hard not to put off, hold back, or save anything that would add laughter and luster to our lives. And every morning when I open my eyes, I tell myself that it is special. Every day, every minute, every breath truly is a gift from God.

People say true friends must always hold hands, but true friends don't need to hold hands because they know the other hand will always be there.

I don't believe in miracles. I rely on them.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we are here we might as well dance.

Wagonmaster’s Message

We are near the end of the rally season and it has been a successful one. It is always great to see many of the members attend one or more rally during the year. The Balloon Fest brought out 78 coaches, which was near capacity for the parking available. It has become as large as our spring rally.

As Bonnie and I are new to being Wagonmasters, we have been thinking of ways to make the rallies more enjoyable to all. We also have got some good feedback and suggestions from several members. The Rallymasters and the workers are key to making a rally enjoyable. They have many duties to perform and in doing so they try to please all who attend. I would like to take this opportunity to give you some information and suggestions for future rallies.

-              The parkers at rallies have a difficult job. Most rallies have limited space for parking and it takes lots of planning to allow as many as possible to attend. For example, the Balloon Fest can handle 80 coaches max if allowance is made for awnings. As the rallymasters don’t like to cap the number attending, we may have to park some rallies without awning space. Next years spring rally is going to have tight parking. I would ask each one attending rallies to respect the parkers and take the space allocated to your coach. It is difficult to move coaches to specific locations due to TV reception, etc.

-              Registration is another important role in holding a rally. The rallymaster needs to know the numbers attending a rally at least two weeks in advance. Remember to register by the deadline and if you are bringing guests with coaches, they must be registered by the deadline as well.

We are well along in the planning for next year’s rallies. We have 4 confirmed (St

Martins, Fredericton, Riverglade and Sussex) and have rallymasters working on one in St Andrews in July. If you would like to host a rally please call or e-mail us at 847-4789 or cnbccolpitts@aol.com.

In closing, I would like to remind you of the last rally for the season in Moncton on Oct 1-3. Following are the 2005 rally dates.

      2005 Rallies

Feb. 2 – 6, 2005           FMCA Southeast Area Rally, Brooksville, Fla.

Mar. 21– 24, 2005        FMCA 73rd International Convention, Perry, Ga.

              June 10 – 12, 2005       P C  St Martins, St Martins, NB, Rallymasters – Ann & Paul Barton

June 17 – 19, 2005       P C  Annual Spring Rally, Fredericton, NB, Rallymasters – Glynn & Marie Salter

Aug 19 – 21,2005         P C Bannister Rally, Riverglade, Rallymasters- Claude and Elsie Bannister

Sept 9 – 11, 2005          P C Balloon Fest, Sussex, NB,  Rallymasters- Norm and Cathy Melvin

Note:  All Perfect Circle Rallies are subject to pre-payment of registration fees.  This allows for more accurate budgeting, preparation of numbers for meals, parking and all other aspects of the rally, which are dependent on the number of coaches and persons attending.  It also aids in arranging for hook-ups, if and when required.

Clint & Bonnie Colpitts

                                     SPRING RALLY “THANK YOU”

We would like to take this opportunity to express our sincere “Thank You” to all those who attended our “Spring Rally” at Sugarloaf Provincial Park and a very special word of appreciation to all those who volunteered to do so many things during the event.

We were also very fortunate to have received the support of so many local businesses that donated numerous prizes.  This enabled many people to go home with excellent gifts.

We were so pleased to have 77 coaches make it to the rally of which 24 arrived on Wednesday and another 35 on Thursday.  It was rewarding to see 7 coaches from the Maine Wheels and also 2 coaches from P.E.I.

From all reports, everyone enjoyed the fun filled weekend and especially the location and facilities at Sugarloaf.

In closing, we would like to thank the executive of Perfect Circle and Wagonmaster, Norm Ferguson, for allowing us the opportunity to host this rally and to show our members a beautiful part of our province and a great place to host a rally.

Sincerely,  Shirley & Allan Dickson

“A little girl, dressed in her Sunday best, was running as fast as she could,

trying not to be late for Bible class.  As she ran she prayed, "Dear

Lord, please don't let me be late!  Dear Lord, please don't let me be

late!"  As she was running and praying, she tripped on a curb and fell, getting her

clothes dirty and tearing her dress.  She got up, brushed herself off,

and started running again.  As she ran she once again began to pray,

"Dear Lord, please don't let me be late...But please don't shove me

either!" “
